All-new 2015 Volkswagen Passat to be unveiled today

Last month we reported teaser images of the upcoming 2015 Volkswagen Passat, covered in a silk veil. We also reported that this new sedan will be introduced this year. Well, time has come when the German manufacturer will take covers off of the 2015 Passat. The official unveil will happen today, June 3 in Hamburg, Germany.

The teaser images showcased previously suggest that the new Passat to have LED headlights. LED taillights and halogen headlights will come as standard. Customers who are willing to pay more, can opt for LED headlights, including one version that automatically adjusts the beam for optimal illumination without bothering oncoming traffic.

The new mid-size model will include both sedan and estate variants based on the group’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB) platform. The new car will shed as much as 85 kg as compared to the current road going version making it more economical in terms of fuel consumption.

The new Passat will carry a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that would produce 236bhp of power and 500Nm of torque. Power will be transmitted to all four wheels through a seven-speed DSG transmission. Company will also offer a plug-in hybrid version that could feature 1.4-litre petrol engine along with 100bhp electric motor. The combined power of the petrol and electric engine will help the plug-in hybrid make a total of 207bhp of power. However, only on the electric mode, the car can travel 50km.
