After Bangalore & Chennai, the 2015 Audi TT was spotted doing the rounds in Mumbai recently. Fresh off the blocks after its world debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, this is the third major iteration of Audi’s popular sports coupe. However, the spotting doesn’t confirm an Indian launch, which is yet to be disclosed.
The TT holds a fair bit of automotive significance. That wedged shape, attention to detail and the clean sea stone profile on the original TT showcased in 1998 was a stroke of genius. This third generation TT is predictably an evolution of sorts, but with strong, hexagonal elements all around, ushering Audi’s new, cleaner design language to the TT line-up.
Based on the VW Group’s ubiquitous MQB modular-transversal architecture, which helps to reduce weight and improve proportions, the TT is 90 kgs lighter than the outgoing model- also due to a hybrid steel and aluminum architecture. Available at launch will be a 2.0 liter TFSI motor in two states of tune – 230 PS – 370 NM and 310 PS – 380 NM (available with TTS), coupled with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed S-Tronic DSG transmissions. The new TT will also be available with a diesel variant, which will be powered by a 184 PS 2.0 TDI motor.
The insides see a few radical features, one of them being Audi’s “virtual cockpit”which it means a largely clutter-free, ultra-clean dashboard. The instrumentation cluster is a TFT screen, and it allows the driver to select a smaller display for speedometer and tachometer, thus opening up a large space for the navigation map and other display functions.
