We reported in detail when German premium car maker Mercedes released images and details of the new 2014 Mercedes GLA, which will be unveiled at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show on Sep 10.

What we have here today is a pic of a new GLA 200 test mule that has been spotted testing on some German autobahn.

The production spec GLA looks like an A Class hatchback on steroids. Unlike the GLA Concept, which boasted of a very aggressive stance, the production spec model looks more crossover-like and more of a Volvo V40 adversary rather than an Audi Q3 rival.

The Mercedes GLA Class will soon become the smallest-ever crossover in Stuttgart based manufacturer’s product portfolio and the GLA will be seen playing baby brother to the much bigger GLK. Underpinning the new GLA is the much publicized MFA platform and the car will have a front wheel drive layout.

Mercedes-Benz GLA measures 4417mm in length, 1804 mm in width and 1494 mm in height, which makes the 2014 GLA dimensionally pretty similar to the GLA Concept. The car is highly aerodynamic with a Cd figure of 0.29.

The GLA is the first Mercedes-Benz SUV to offer an option of the new-gen permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC system, which benefits from fully variable torque distribution.

Powertrain details aren’t known yet but the GLA could be powered by 1.6L and 2.0L petrol engines, along with a couple of oil burners that would displace 1.8L and a 2.1L respectively.

Stay tuned to Motoroids for more info on the upcoming production spec 2014 Mercedes GLA.
