New 2013 Skoda Octavia to step into Indian car market on Aug 9

Regulars to Motoroids would know that the all new generation 2013 Skoda Octavia has been busy making plenty of news across the globe. The latest generation of the Octy has already been introduced to several European car markets and while it has always been obvious that the new car is headed our way, it is only now that the official word about the 2013 Skoda Octavia India launch has come out. The all new Skoda Octavia will be officially showcased in India on August 9 and we expect sales to commence towards the end of August.

The VW Group owned Czech auto maker is betting big on the new Octy and people from around the world are of a belief that the latest Octavia could very well raise the bar in the highly competitive mid-size sedan segment. The new 2013 Octavia is underpinned by the much publicized MQB platform. The same platform underpins many more new-age Volkswagen group cars.

There are many auto industry watchers in India who believe that the 2013 Skoda Octavia will be sold in our country alongside the Laura (which is the last gen Octavia) and this might continue until Skoda India comes up with new entry level variants of the new Octy for complete model replacement.

The 2013 Octy is being said to be roomier than the Laura and from what we have come to know, the new Octavia is almost as big as the Superb flagship sedan. This means that the upcoming Skoda sedan could be half a shoe size larger than the Chevrolet Cruze, the new Hyundai Elantra and the Volkswagen Jetta.

The engine options for the 2013 Octavia are likely to be carried over from the current car. This means that the new Octavia would get a 1.8 TSI turbocharged petrol and a 2.0 TDI turbocharged diesel engine. Skoda India might also later add an entry level 1.6 Liter TDI turbo diesel engine variant to keep the costs under check. It is almost for sure that the new Octy will be costlier than the Laura but on the same time, the car might come across as a much more value for money proposition due to its larger size, newer technology and a bigger equipment list.
