The 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatchback made a debut at the NAIAS show (Detroit Motor Show), after being unveiled last week through official images. Based on the 2016 Cruze, the hatchback gives its customers a practical option that does not sacrifice on the style. The hatch will be similar to the sedan from the front, all the way back to the C pillar.

Speaking about the design aspect, the Cruze hatchback has a sloping roofline complimented by an integrated spoiler that gives the model a sporty look. The front fascia of the hatch features an updated design with a split grille between the headlights that have a projector setup and DRLs to accompany it. Coming to the dimensions, the wheelbase measures 2,700 mm which is carried over from the Cruze sedan while the cargo space behind the second row measures 524 litres. With the rear seats folded, the space increases to a whopping 1,336 litres.

Powering the Cruze hatchback would be the same engine featured on the Cruze sedan. The 1.4 litre Ecotec, turbocharged four cylinder engine produces a peak power output of 153 hp at 5,600 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 2,000 rpm. This engine comes with a start/stop technology. Transmission options include a six speed manual transmission and a six speed AMT.

Some of the key features of the Cruze hatchback include lane keep assist, side blind zone alert and rear park assist and Apple CarPlay and android auto compatibility via MyLink. The company also said that none of the rivals to the hatchback had any of the aforementioned features.

Once launched in August 2016, the Cruze hatchback will be sold in threetrims- LT and premier and a sports version known as the RS variant.
