If you grew up listening to Enter Sandman and One, join the club. We know James Hetfield can croon, warming the cockles of your prepubescent heart and even thereafter, but let’s take a look at his hot-rod conceptualization skills as well, shall we? Hetfield’s latest custom creation is called the Black Pearl, and it is a fitting masterpiece. After deservedly scooping the Goodguys’ 2014 Mother’s Custom of the Year award earlier this year, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s special one-off creation, which was designed with Rick Dore, has graced people with its presence at the LA Auto Show.
Built with the help of Southern California’s reputed coach-builders Marcel and Luc De Lay, the Black Pearl’s period, achingly beautiful, tear-drop shaped bodywork is here to warm your cockles once more, just like his tunes. Coated in a deep PPG black contrasted with brushed brass trim, with an all-white interior sporting Art Deco style dash gauges, the Black Pearl rests on a custom chassis based on a 1948 Jaguar Mk 4 sedan with power coming from a 375-hp, 5.0 liter Ford crate V8 mated to a Ford C4 automatic box. We wish the Metallica front-man all the best will his stunning new creation!
