Mercedes Releases Images of SLS AMG E-CELL

Mercedes recently released details of SLS AMG E-CELL. Development of the drivetrain system of this car is in process since a couple of years now and is the result of cooperation between Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains in Brixworth. The electric version of the sportscar gets KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) that Mercedes uses in its Formula 1 race car. The car is powered by four synchronous electric motors. These motors are placed close to the wheel to minimize the unsprung masse and also achieve a low centre of gravity. This electric system gives a power output of 526 bhp and a torque of 880 Nm. The system sends power to individual wheel and helps the car at corners. The carbon-fibre transmission tunnel, which also serves as the monocoque housing for the high-voltage battery modules, is structurally integrated into the aluminium body shell. Merc claims a 4 second run to 100kmph.

The car is a limited edition and only a few will be sold when the car goes on sale next year.
