The ultra-luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S600, that made its debut at the 2014 LA Motor Show, is set for an India launch on the 25th day of September, 2015. With the launch of the Mercedes-Maybach S600, the German marque will also introduce the new sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes-Maybach. Globally, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Series model is available in two variants – S500 (4663cc) and S600 (5980cc). The Indian market would receive the top of the line S600 variant of the luxury sedan.
At the heart of the S600 is a massive 5980cc V12 biturbo power plant, churning out 530 hp of power and 830 Nm of torque channeled to the wheels via Mercedes’ 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. However, the numbers do not translate to eyeball flattening speeds due to the extra weight of the armour. So while the naught to sixty mph (96kmph) takes five seconds, the top speed is restricted to 210 kmph.
But it’s not about the naught to 100 kph or top speed figures. The Mercedes-Maybach S600 epitome of luxury and is billed as the “world’s quietest production saloon car. Mercedes claims that the Maybach S600 boasts impressive “aeroacoustics,” with extensive wind-tunnel tests and special seals and insulation used to reduce wind noise inside the car as much as possible.
At 5453 mm long and with a wheelbase measuring 3365 mm, the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz saloon range is noticeably longer than even the long wheelbase, “regular” S-Class saloon. The interiors are lavish and elegant to say the least. So while the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has been specifically designed to be chauffeur-driven and there have been no compromises for the driver and front passenger comfort, the real sense of spaciousness is to be found in the rear. The rear compartment gets leg room that has been designed keeping the likes of Shaquille O’Neal or even the incredible Hulk in mind. The comfort of the rear seats is enhanced with recliner and ventilated seats with massager. Due to the roof-line, it was also possible to further raise the head clearance.
