Mercedes-Benz India seems to have had a brilliant start to the new year. The Stuttgart-based luxury carmaker posted a growth in sales of 40% for this year’s first quarter. The company sold a reported 3,566 units over this period, whereas only 2,554 units were shifted last year over the same period. Eberhard Kern, who is the Managing Director and CEO of Mercedes-Benz India, attributed this growth to the company’s enduring focus on its customers.

The new C-Class played a major role in lighting up the sales charts for Mercedes-Benz.

Kern must be right, because Mercedes-Benz India recorded its highest fiscal sales numbers for the period 2014-15, selling 11,213 units. The sales numbers stood at 9,548 units in the previous fiscal, a year-over-year growth of 17.5%. Mercedes says these figures were helped by the strong sales of its new C-Class and E-Class saloons. These cars were backed up by good sales of the suave CLA-Class four-door coupé and GLA-Class compact crossover.

The ML-Class too has a waiting period for its buyers.

Models like the ML-Class (now called GLE-Class) and the GL-Class (soon to be GLS-Class) have been garnering enough attention from customers in India and now have a waiting period. The same applies for the CLA and the S-Class, both commanding a waiting period for their prospective new customers. The company is said to be working on increasing its production capacity in order to lower the increasing waiting period of these models.

The CLA-Class has been received well in India and now has a waiting period.

Kern also attributed the strong sales to Mercedes-Benz’s extensive product portfolio, easy finance schemes and other customer related services. Mercedes-Benz has announced 15 fresh models for India, out of which 5 are already here.
