The upcoming Maruti YRA (codename) hatchback shows itself in its entirety in these new spy images. Although these images show the Euro-spec, LHD model, it gives a fair idea of what to expect from Maruti’s all-new premium hatchback, to be positioned above the Swift.
The YRA’s appearance will be that of a watered down Suzuki iK-2 Concept, which made its debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show in March. Characterising the front will be a V-shaped grille, and upswept headlamp clusters with projector illumination. A flowing waistline rises and meets a mildly swooping roofline at the back, while the raked rear screen and the spoiler add character to the rear. The compact tail lamps get LED bits.
Powering the YRA will be a new 1 liter Boosterjet, turbocharged petrol engine (K10C), which is expected to deliver upwards of 23 Kmpl, while the 1.3 liter DDiS diesel unit is also expected alongside. Upmarket features like satellite navigation, keyless entry system, steering-mounted controls, start-stop system and new infotainment system with touch screen will be put to use to fend off the Elite i20 and the Jazz.
The European version will get 16 inch, multi-spoke alloy wheels, projector headlamps, blacked out A-pillars, chromed door handles, chrome trimmings below the windows and the rear windscreen, while it goes to be seen whether Indian versions benefit from these aforementioned exterior embellishments.
