The Maruti Suzuki WagonR has consistenly performed well for the India’s largest car maker. The company sells the second gen WagonR with CNG, LPG and petrol variants. The company also launched a more premium WagonR Stingray. Reports also say that Maruti will be equipping the WagonR Stingray with the automated manual transmission. Now, a new report says that the company has already began work on the third generation WagonR which will be a 7 seater MPV.
The third gen WagonR will be a 7 seater MPV measuring under the 4 metre mark. Also, the MPV will be powered by petrol and diesel engines. With the MPV measuring under the 4 metre mark, it will be priced competitively at around 4.5-6.5 lakh rupees.
“Most of the work on the new WagonR is going on in the India R&D. The company sees major potential for a low-priced 7-seater vehicle coming with Suzuki’s reliability, especially in the rural market which is today almost a third of total sales,” a source close to the development said, adding that the new WagonR would also be exported to Indonesia.
The WagonR MPV R&D is carried out in India under project code “YCA”. It will be launched in 2017 and will compete with the upcoming Datsun Go+ MPV.
