We have already reported Maruti Suzuki is readying its Ford Ecosport killer compact SUV codenamed as YBA. The compact SUV is reported to ride on the platform underpinning the Swift hatchback and will go on sale early next year. Previewed by the XA-Alpha concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2012, the Maruti Suzuki YBA will measure less than 4-metre in length making it eligible for excise duty benefits applicable for small cars.
The YBA compact SUV will be available with both petrol and diesel engines. Petrol engine is likely to be the same 1.2 liter K-series mill which powers the Swift. Diesel engine is likely to be the 1.3 liter Multijet or an all new engine developed in-house by Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki will shortly launch the S-Cross in the Indian market. Following the S-Cross will be the YRA premium hatchback which will be positioned above the Swift. The YRA will be pitted against the upcoming Honda Jazz.
Upon its launch, the YBA hatchback will compete with the likes of Ford Ecosport, Mahindra S101 and the upcoming compact SUV from Nissan. It is expected to be priced at around INR 7-9 lakh. Stay tuned to Motoroids for more dope on the YBA compact SUV India launch.
