The Porsche 911 GT2 RS was announced in 2010 by the Stuttgart-based carmaker and was meant to be a more hardcore, race-oriented version of the standard 911 GT2. As a result, the RS was 70 kg lighter and as a bonus, Porsche also tweaked the GT2’s 523 horsepower 3.6-litre twin-turbo boxer engine. This meant that the GT2 RS had 612 horsepower and a titanic 700 Nm of torque to play with. The sprint from 0-100 km/h took only 3.4 seconds and it would eventually go on to hit 330 km/h. However, the production of this 997 generation GT2 RS ended in 2012 and since then, the GT3 RS has taken over. That said, the GT2 RS remains Porsche’s most potent 911 to ever hit the market.

Anyway, you need not despair as Andreas Preuninger has confirmed that the company will bring out a new 911 GT2 RS in the near future. Andreas Preuninger is the Manager of Porsche High Performance Cars and according to him, there isn’t much need of a new GT2 RS at present. Preuninger believes that the 911 GT3 RS is serious enough for most people. Preuninger also revealed that all the future “GT” badged 911s will have no turbos attached to them. This means that the next GT2 RS might have a naturally aspirated motor, but what would that do to the power output? Well, we will have to wait a while before we can find out what the upcoming Porsche 911 GT2 RS would be like. Stay tuned to Motoroids for news on the auto industry.
