Maruti Suzuki SX4 Facelift Caught Testing

Maruti Suzuki has never really managed to take the large upper C segment sedan car market by storm. At the start of the new millennium, came the Baleno which despite being a great all rounder, could not really leave an impression on the car buying lot. The Baleno was later replaced by the SX4.

The Maruti Suzuki SX4, which is a sedan derivative of the SX4 hatchback sold in many international markets, did reasonably well until the time the Honda played a great gate crasher to MSIL’s party and launched the all new Honda City.

Some time back, Maruti launched the diesel variant of the SX4 by plonking in the 1.3 Litre Multijet. However, the response to the new variant can be best described as to be lukewarm.

Motoroids became the first in the country when it emerged that Suzuki is already working on the next gen SX4 and that the car is sure to come to our market. However, it has now emerged that Maruti plans to give the ageing car a mild facelift before replacing it with the all new model in a few years.

A couple of camouflaged test mules of SX4 facelift were recently spotted testing in different parts of India. From the looks of it, the refreshed car could be out before March next year.

The SX4 facelift will come with chrome garnishing on the front grill, the honeycomb mesh front grille that came with the diesel variant will be replaced by the horizontal slates, a chrome strip that will run right above the grille and on the bonnet and a revised bumper that appears beefier.

It would be interesting to see how well Maruti manages to price the refreshed car.
