India’s leading car maker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd has no crossover in its current line up. Maruti showcased the S-Cross at the Auto Expo 2014 this year along with the concept avatar of the upcoming Ciaz sedan. Now, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is preparing itslef to launch the S-Cross in India early next year.
Speaking about the equipment offered on the S-Cross, reports suggest that the LED daytime-running lamps could feature in the top-spec variant sold in India. Also, the crossover is expected to get 16-inch alloy wheels, scuff plates and black cladding on its exteriors. In other markets, the S-Cross is equipped with Suzuki’s All grip 4×4 system. But chances of the 4×4 being offered in the Indian market are very slim. The interior bits, such as the switchgear and steering wheel, are shared with other Maruti models to keep costs down.

Unveiling the SX4 S-Cross, Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki, Executive Vice President, Suzuki Motor Corporation said, “The two cars that we unveil today follow the footsteps of the iconic Suzuki Swift. These models are designed to meet the varied requirements of discerning customers around the world.While the SX4 S-CROSS is a real crossover with authentic performance, the Concept CIAZ is designed to meet the growing demand in C-Segment market in India, China and elsewhere.”
The S-Cross is expected to come with a 1.6-litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat. This 1.6 litre turbocharged unit pumps out 118 bhp of max power and 32 kgm of peak torque, and is expected to come connected to a six-speed manual gearbox.
It is expected that Maruti Suzuki will be pricing the S-Cross at INR 13-14 lakh. Armed with trusted mechanicals, proven engine and a large network of dealers and service centers across India, the S-Cross has full potential to give sleepless nights to its competitors.
