Maruti Stingray CNG could be Launched Soon

Maruti-Suzuki-Stingray-CNG

We reported in detail when Maruti Suzuki launched the new Stingray, Wagon R based tall boy, in Indian market recently. Powering the new Stingray is the same 1 litre K-Series petrol engine that also powers the Wagon R and a host of other small cars from MSIL.

However, unlike the Wagon R, the Stingray doesn’t get a Petrol+CNG dual fuel variant. It is now being said that a Stingray CNG is in pipeline and could be launched within next few months.

The Maruti Stingray CNG is expected to cost about INR 30,000-40,000 more than the petrol variants with similar equipment and like the regular WagonR CNG, the Sting Ray CNG too will have option of being powered by either petrol or CNG.

The Maruti Stingray CNG will be sold only in select cities, where CNG outlets are common. It isn’t yet known if Maruti also plans to soon  come up with a LPG powered Stingray but our guess is that the LPG Duo option might make it to us soon after the launch of the CNG variant.

The newly launched Stingray is meant to expand Maruti Suzuki’s product portfolio and offer a stylish option to the youngsters in the small car segment. The new Stingray, apart from a stylish exterior, also boasts some new features which are a first for the class it represents. Of these, projector headlamps are the most mentionable feature – a first for this segment of cars.

Visual changes on the outside include a new completely new front fascia, side skirts, blacked out B-pillars and a roof mounted rear spoiler. The car also gets gunmetal-grey alloy-wheels, chrome plated tail lamps and chrome back-door garnish with ‘Stingray’ embossing. The Stingray can be ordered in a choice of 5 colors – Midnight Blue, Passion Red, Glistening Grey, Superior White and Silky Silver.

On the inside, the Stingray features all-black interior which gets completely new, more premium upholstery.  To add to the premium feel, Maruti have used chrome on door handles and AC louvers. The car also comes with new blue backlit instrument cluster with a multi information display that shows instant and average fuel economy, distance to empty etc. The steering wheel gets audio controls and comes wrapped in leather.

The Maruti Suzuki stingray is available in Lxi and Vxi variants, with ABS and Driver Airbag being optional on VXI variant. The ex-showroom Delhi prices for these variants are:

  • Stingray Lxi 409,999
  • Stingray Vxi 437,999
  • Stingray Vxi (O) 466,999

It would be interesting to see if the upcoming Stingray CNG, which would be approx INR 60k pricier than Wagon R CNG, would be able to leave a mark on the sales charts.
