Mahindra to soon launch 2.2 mHawk in lower variants of Xylo

Seen here is a teaser posted by Mahindra on its Facebook page. The image shows an incomplete mHawk badge on the Xylo. It may be noted that the mHawk engine is already available on the E9 variants of the Xylo and now it seems like Mahindra is close to launching the mHawk engine on lower variants of the Xylo.

The mHawk diesel engine displaces 2.2 litres and has a max power output of 120bhp@4,000 rpm and a peak torque figure of 280 Nm@2,400-2,800 rpm. The 2.2 litre mHawk engine might replace the current 2.5-liter mEagle diesel engine that powers the lower variants of the Xylo. This motor has a max power output of 112bhp@3,800 rpm and a peak torque figure of 260Nm@1,800-2,200 rpm.

The Xylo E8, which is positioned below the E9, comes kitted out with ABS & EBD, rear food trays, parking assistant and digital vehicle information system.

The E9 variant, which is already being powered by the 2.2 mHawk, was launched along with the Xylo facelift that came to us in early 2012.

Mahindra might have planned to launch the 2.2 mHawk in lower variants due to the aggressive pricing of the recently launched Chevrolet Enjoy.

The new Enjoy has been launched with both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel engine variant, which is sure to be the more popular of the two variants, will be powered by the 1.3 Multijet engine that powers many cars in Indian car market. The tried and tested diesel engine develops a  maximum power of 77.5 PS and a peak torque rating of 188 Nm for the Enjoy. The diesel engine has a claimed FE figure of 18.2 kmpl.

The petrol variant of the Enjoy will be powered by a 1.4 Litre four cylinder normally aspirated gasoline engine that has been derived from that of the Aveo’s petrol engine. The engine has a max power output of 103 Bhp and a peak torque figure of 131 Nm. The engine is mated to a five speed manual transmission.

  1. I agree. Mahindra should do away with the Xylo and its brother the Quanto and start working on improving their products quality. At the moment all they seem to be interested in is marketing.

What they dont understand is that if they put the same amount of money into making a better vehicle, the vehicle would market itself.
