Mahindra Scorpio records annual sales of over 50,000 units in FY 2011-12

Scorpio is one of the two products that changed the face of Mahindra, the other being the Bolero. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M Ltd.), India’s leading UV manufacturer, has been having a ball with the Scorpio SUV taking the Indian entry level segment by storm. The car has given a good fight to the more established rival, the Tata Safari. The manufacturer of the popular SUV recently announced that the high selling Scorpio recorded its highest ever annual sales since it was launched. The manufacturer sold 50,844 units of the rugged vehicle during FY 2011-12 as against 43,451units during FY 2010-11 and with this, the Scorpio registered a growth of 17%.

We are not surprised with this fact as we see too many of these cars out there on the road. Most of the Scorpio SUVs we encounter are badly driven but then, that is another story for another day. The popularity of this vehicle is so strong that the Scorpio fan page on Facebook has 1 million plus fan base.

Speaking on the milestone, Pravin Shah, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “This is a very proud moment for us, as the iconic and trend-setting Scorpio has achieved yet another milestone in the 10 th year of its exceptional journey. This achievement reaffirms the brand’s popularity and confidence that consumers have reposed in the brand. Today, the Scorpio is one of the most admired and awarded brands within the Indian automobile industry”.
