Just when we thought we have had our dose of new AMT equipped cars, it emerged that a Mahindra Quanto AMT variant is in pipeline! The upcoming model is set for an Auto Expo 2014 debut and you can safely expect us to update you with more dope on this as soon as we manage to dig out some.

The upcoming Mahindra Quanto variant is slated to become the first AMT from the popular UV maker and we won’t be too surprised to see other models in the car maker’s line-up getting an Automated Manual Transmission. The Quanto sub-4m MUV is powered by a 1.5 liter, three-cylinder diesel engine that has a max power of 98.6 Bhp and peak torque of 240 Nm.
It may be noted that the Quanto hasn’t exactly been a sales success. Sometime back, Mahindra bestowed the little MPV with yoga seats, easily a ‘gimmick’ to attract more buyers. This enables passengers to adjust the seat back for better seating comfort and more leg space.
Now, it seems like Mahindra and Mahindra might be betting on the AMT to give a much needed boost to the car’s sales performance. However, it remains to be seen if the upcoming AMT variant would be potent enough to vitalize the sales of the slow-selling mini MPV.
