Mahindra Pulls The Plug On The e2o In UK

Back in April 2016, Mahindra launched the e2o electric car in the UK with prices starting at £12,995 (approximately INR 10 lakh). Now, more than a year into the launch, Mahindra has stopped the sale of its electric vehicle in the region.

Although the Indian manufacturer has not officially revealed any reason behind the move, it is believed that the model was withdrawn from the United Kingdom owing to poor sales. The company is currently in the process of wrapping up its operations in the country.

Mahindra has sent out letters to its current and prospective customers regarding the decision to leave the UK market. The company has also cancelled all its existing and pending orders and is also offering buy back options to the customers. Mahindra is said to be buying back these vehicles at the price initially paid for by the customers. This move is being undertaken as the company does not want to cause inconvenience to its customers after the company officially exits the country and leaves the customers in absence of any service facilities.

The company’s plan to leave the UK market comes at a point after they had planned to expand to other regions such as Norway, Netherlands and Sweden. The e2o was one of the most affordable electric cars in the region, even after considering the fact that the model was exported to UK from the company’s production facility in Bengaluru.
