Maharashtra Government To Offer Special Incentives To Promote Electric Vehicles

With an aim to promote electric vehicles and achieve its target of complete electrification by 2030, Maharashtra government has offered special incentive and tax benefits on purchase of select vehicles. The scheme will first be implemented in major cities including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Thane, and Nashik.

The initiative will support the FAME India Scheme [Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles in India] which covers Hybrid & Electric technologies like Mild Hybrid, Strong Hybrid, Plug in Hybrid & Battery Electric Vehicles.

For starters, the state government has announced tax exemption on purchase of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles would also be exempted from road tax and registration charges. Moreover, the government has also announced a cash back policy at the end of the vehicle’s.

Setting up an electric charging station will also be financially supported with the help of subsidy. The state government will provide a 25 percent subsidy (up to INR 10 lakh) for the first 250 electric charging stations. With proper clearance, manufacturers can also install charging stations at fuel pumps which will be charged non-commercial electricity fares.

With these special incentives, and better infrastructure, we should see a considerable rise in the sales of electric vehicles.
