A few weeks ago, we had told you that the turbo powered version of the 1.4-litre petrol Linea was to be launched by early September. We also brought to you a scoop video of the new car from the Italian carmaker. However, after our recent conversion with the top guys at Fiat it has emerged that the launch has been postponed to the first week of October.
Fiat has recently launched the Grande Punto 90hp (Click here to read a detailed road test) and the launch of the Linea T-jet would have been too close. The turbocharged 1.4-litre engine which would find its place under the bonnet of the Linea will most likely be tuned to produce around 120PS of power against the 78 horses dished out by the naturally aspirated FIRE engine.
The car will also be slightly more fuel efficient than its NA version owing to better output. The price of the new car is expected to be a little less than Rs 10lakh. This will make the Linea a terrific buy against some of its competitors, as the only department where it lagged was power, otherwise offering terrific value for money in terms of design, space and equipment levels.
