A leaked brochure reveals all the details about the next-generation, 2017 (Maruti) Suzuki Swift before its global reveal on December 27. While we’re already familiar with the design somewhat, the leak divulges the variants, engine specifications, features and prices of the 2017 Suzuki Swift.
Mind you that these are the details of the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Swift, and the India-spec model will be noticeably different in terms of interiors, drive-trains and equipment. The 2017 Suzuki Swift will be available in 5 variants (in Japan) – XG, XL, Hybrid ML, RS and RSt.
The first three are powered by a 1.2-litre VVT 4-cylinder petrol engine available with a either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT. The Hybrid ML variant gets Suzuki’s SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) mild hybrid setup that integrates a starter/generator and regenerative braking.
All these three variants can also be had with a AWD system, while the Swift Hybrid ML can average a fuel efficiency of 27.4 km/L (2WD CVT/in the JC08 cycle). The RS variants are available with as many as three power-train options – a 1.2-litre VVT 4-cylinder petrol engine, the same engine clubbed to SHVS, and finally the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine in the RSt.
The RS variants can be had with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a CVT, while AWD is optional. The RSt (1.0-litre Boosterjet engine) gets a 6-speed automatic transmission with steering-mounted shift paddles, and can average a fuel economy of 20.0 km/L (in the JC08 cycle).
As for the exteriors, the range-topping Swift RSt comes equipped with LED auto headlamps, LED DRLs, halogen fog lamps, 16-inch alloy rims, ORVM-mounted turn indicators and reverse parking sensors with camera.
Inside, the 2017 Suzuki Swift features a flat-bottom steering wheel with audio/cruise controls, steering-mounted shift paddles(RSt only), automatic climate control, keyless entry, push button engine start/stop, heated front seats, and a MID with power readings.
The touchscreen equipped infotainment system comes with navigation and Apple Carplay connectivity. As for safety, the 2017 Suzuki Swift comes with ESP and Hill Hold Assist. The optional Safety Pack further comes with Dual Camera Brake Support, Lane Departure Warning, and speed limiter.
The Japanese prices have also been revealed in the brochure. The XG, XL, Hybrid ML, variants are priced between 1,343,520 yen – 1,875,960 yen (INR 7.76 Lakhs – INR 10.84 Lakhs), while the RS variants are priced between 1,594,080 yen – 1,800,360 yen (INR 9.21 Lakhs – INR 10.40 Lakhs).
