Kia Seltos Hybrid Spotted Testing In Alps: What We Know So Far

Hybrid cars are slowly becoming a normal sight on Indian roads. Buyers who want better mileage without giving up the convenience of a petrol engine now have more choices. Kia could add another name to this list with the Seltos Hybrid, which has been spotted testing in the Austrian Alps.

The test vehicle gives a useful look at what Kia is working on. It was seen with light camouflage and new alloy wheels. Its shape follows the new Seltos sold in global markets. Hybrid badges identify the test car.

What the Seltos Hybrid could offer

The biggest news is under the bonnet. Global versions are expected to use a 1.6 litre petrol hybrid setup. Some versions also use a 1.5kWh battery.

ItemDetails
Global engine1.6 litre petrol hybrid
India expected engine1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol hybrid
Global transmission6 speed dual clutch automatic
Drive options2WD and e AWD
Global outputAround 141 PS for 2WD
e AWD outputUp to 178 PS
Expected mileageAround 25 kmpl

For India, reports point to a different setup using a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The India output and gearbox are not confirmed. Kia is also expected to keep the existing petrol and diesel choices in the Seltos range.

e AWD is a major talking point

The global Seltos Hybrid can be offered with e AWD. Here, an electric motor drives the rear wheels instead of using a traditional mechanical connection. This can give extra traction without making the system too complicated.

The 2WD version suits daily use, while e AWD can offer better grip on rough roads. Whether India gets this version will depend on Kia’s final plans.

Features inside

The cabin should carry most regular Seltos equipment, plus some hybrid related additions.

  • Vehicle to Load function
  • Smart Regenerative Braking 3.0
  • Stay Mode
  • Front speaker for EV driving sound
  • Type C charging ports
  • Physical climate control buttons
  • Cruise control
  • 30 inch Trinity display
  • ADAS features
  • Sporty seats

The China spec Seltos uses a different dashboard with a triple screen layout. The global model uses a dual screen setup.

When will it reach India?

The Seltos Hybrid is expected to be introduced in India in 2027. It would sit beside the regular petrol and diesel versions and give buyers another powertrain choice.

The segment already has strong hybrid names such as the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. The next Hyundai Creta Hybrid and Renault Duster Hybrid could also join the fight.

For Kia, the Seltos Hybrid could be an important step as more buyers start looking at fuel saving technology without moving fully to an electric car. The Alps test gives an early look at this new Seltos variant. That could help many buyers who watch fuel costs closely.
