We were one of the first to report that Japanese automaker Isuzu plans to soon make an entry in to the rapidly growing Indian car market. The car maker has plans to launch the MU7 SUV and D-Max Pick Up truck in Indiq. While we were expecting Isuzu to commence Indian operations some time in 2014, it seems like the car maker might introduce its first vehicle in India as soon as in early 2013.
What we have here as the lead image is an Isuzu MU7 test mule that has been spotted testing in India and going by the amount of camouflage (or the lack of it) that the car is wearing, it can be said that the new Isuzu MU7 is close to making its Indian debut. The MU7 is also sold as the Alterra in some markets. In India, the Isuzu MU7 will battle it out against the likes of Toyota Fortuner, Ssangyong Rexton and Ford Endeavour.
Powering this big SUV is a 3 Liter-inline 4 cylinder turbo diesel engine that pumps out a max power of 161 Bhp and peak torque of 360 Nm. The transmission options that the MU7 offers are a 5 speed manual and a five speed auto.
On the inside, the interiors benefits from acres of real estate and the MU7 can easily accommodate 7 adults and their luggage. Safety features on offer are- ABS, traction control, ESP and airbags.
It is being said that Isuzu MU7 will come to us via Completely Knocked Down(CKD) route and will be priced bang in the middle of Toyota Fortuner and Ssangyong Rexton. This means that the car will sport a price tag of INR 20 lakhs and will come across as quite a value for money proposition.
totally agree with deepak the back end has no imagination my 2 year old could of designed that!
It's not a match to Fortuner by any standards. If it is priced along Innova with similar features and just 2WD it can make some good volumes,
Was excited seeing the macho front…but equally disappointed with the rear styling 🙁
i saw this car in pune 3 days back,,,,,
the same car under testing is parked in front of my home in Akurdi, Pune.
