New Bajaj Avenger Street Review

Is The Avenger 160 A Worthy Successor To The Avenger 180?

Bajaj Auto had recently launched the all-new Avenger Street 160 in India. This new bike will act as a replacement for the previous Avenger 180. The latter was about to get a new ABS update, to comply with the new government safety norms, but Bajaj had other plans. Bajaj hasn’t stated the exact reason for this change yet, but the main reason is likely to be that the Avenger 180 was placed too close to the 220cc variant. There are many other reasons why the new Avenger 160 replaced the Avenger 180, let’s have a look:

Avenger 180

Mechanical Upgrades

Bajaj has now equipped the Avenger 160 with the 160.4cc, SOHC, air-cooled engine, which is good enough to produce 15 PS at 8,500 rpm and 13.5 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. These figures are much better than the Avenger 180, which was air-cooled and produced the same amount of power but less torque. The bike also gets a 5-speed gearbox, while the suspension duties are managed by telescopic forks in the front and a twin suspension setup at the rear.

Safety

The new Bajaj Avenger 160 gets a new single-channel ABS, which now makes the 160 a better and safer option than the Avenger 180. The bike also gets a set of slightly tweaked footpegs for better grip, a soft, replaceable backrest and wider tyres. The bike also gets a new RLP (Rear-wheel Lift Protection) sensor, which keeps the bike stable at high speeds.

Price

With a price tag of Rs 82,253 (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Avenger 160 is much more affordable than the Avenger 180 which was priced at Rs 88,077 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Avenger 160 will now take on the Suzuki Intruder, which is a 150cc cruiser and is priced beyond the 1 lakh mark. This clearly makes the Avenger 160 a more viable option and also the most affordable cruiser bike in this segment.

Bajaj dealerships have already started accepting the bookings for the new Avenger Street 160 and the deliveries have already commenced. The Avenger 160 will be available in 2 colours – Spicy Red and Ebony Black. These new changes will be disheartening for the owners of the Avenger 180 Street, as their bike has been pulled out of the market within a very short span of purchase.
