We reported in detail when Skoda India, the Indian subsidiary of the VW Group owned Czech automaker, unveiled the much hyped new 2013 Skoda Octavia in our country.

Now, what we have here with us today is information on the upcoming car’s engines and variants.

The new Octy will have the following engine options for India

  • Internationally acclaimed 1.4 litre TSI Petrol engine
  • The 1.8 TSi Petrol engine from the Laura
  • The 2.0 TDi Diesel engine, again from the Laura

The 1.4TSi Petrol engine makes 140PS for the new Octy and comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. This engine has a torque of 250Nm, while the fuel economy is being claimed to be 16.8kmpl.

It may be noted that the 1.8TSi motor, which comes from Laura, now makes 180PS (versus 160PS before) and also bestows the new Octy with 250Nm of torque. The engine also gets a new 7-speed DSG box with Tiptronic function. The claimed fuel efficiency for this motor is rated at 14.7kmpl.

The 2.0 Litre diesel motor will have 143PS of max power for the Octy, a full 3PS more than what it delivered for the Laura. Torque, however, remains the same at 320Nm. The transmission options would include both a 6-speed manual and a DSG box. Claimed fuel efficiency for manual-gearbox variant is 20.6kmpl and is 19.3kmpl for the DSG equipped variant.

The new Skoda Octavia will go on sale in India with six colour options. One of this would be the Racy Blue, which was earlier available only on the vRS (but would be standard across all variants of the new Octavia).

The car will be offered in three trim levels- Active, Ambition and Elegance .

All these will have 16-inch alloy wheels as standard, with the top end variants getting-

  • six airbags
  • front and rear parking sensors
  • cruise control
  • auto wipers
  • auto closing sunroof during rains
  • bi-xenon headlamps with dynamic levelling
  • auto headlamps with fog lights which re-adjust themselves while cornering

The 2013 Octy is already on sale in many European countries and has been receiving rave reviews from many auto hacks from across the continent. Skoda India has high hopes from the new Octavia and we will be reviewing the new car very soon to find out if all this hype is justified.

The new Octavia is expected to have a starting price of INR 11.5 lakhs.
