Regulars to Motoroids would know that we have been posting in considerable detail about the Italian auto giant Fiat Group’s plans of launching the Jeep brand in India. As we have previously reported and as is also a well known fact, the car maker will commence its Indian innings with the iconic Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee premium SUV.
However, the Jeep’s onslaught on Indian car market won’t cease with the launch of these two products. Also coming our way are two crossovers from Jeep. One of these would be a B segment crossover and the other would cater to the C segment. These vehicles are being developed especially for developing car markets like that of India. Once launched, these two vehicles will become the bread and butter models for the car maker.
The car you see in the pics here is the upcoming baby Jeep B segment crossover and the test mules of this upcoming model were spotted in USA and Europe.
The Fiat Jeep B Segment crossover will be underpinned by the same platform that upderpins the Fiat 500X. The car is likely to go sale in 2015 and this baby Jeep is likely to be powered by the same Fiat 1.4 litre T-Jet turbo petrol engine that powers the Linea T-Jet. The diesel mill on duty would be the same 1.6 litre Multijet oil burner that is likely to make its India debut with the advent of the Linea facelift. It would be intestesting to see if the Jeep B segment crossover, in true Jeep fashion, would come with all wheel drive option.
It is expected that the Jeep B Segment crossover would be almost identical to the Ford EcoSport in dimensions and would offer at least similar levels of cabin and boot space.
As can be seen, the test mule looks very similar to the larger 500 and it would be interesting to see if the final product would carry the distinctive Jeep visual appeal. The Jeep B Segment SUV will be locally assembled to keep the costs low and is being expected to be priced at this side of INR 10 lakhs.
