Compact SUV’s are the bread and butter products for auto manufacturers in India. Just compare Ford’s sales figures before and after the launch of the Ecosport. The Renault Duster enjoyed a waiting time of more than 6 months in some places, and now same is the case with Ford Ecosport. Also, India,s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki has announced a compact SUV by next year which was recently showcased in its concept form at the Frankfurt Motor Show. With every car maker entering the segment, now Japanese automaker Toyota has decided to join the party, and has announced plans to launch the Rush compact SUV in India. According to the good folks at Fly-wheel , Toyota has completed the pre-testing formalities and will soon start the road testing of Rush in India. Toyota sells the Rush in the South Asian markets as a 7 seater SUV with a 1.5 litre VVTi engine. The Indian version is expected to be offered with the 1.5 litre petrol motor from the Etios and the 1.4 litre diesel engine from the Corolla Altis. It will be interesting to see Toyota”s strategy with the Rush. This SUV will directly pitted against the Ford Ecosport, Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster. Also, there were rumours that Chevrolet is going to enter this segment with the Trax. Even, Honda has started the global testing of their compact SUV based on the Urban SUV concept showcased at the Frankfurt Motor show. We can expect Toyota to showcase the compact SUV Rush at the 2014 Auto Expo in February. Stay tuned to Motoroids for more updates on the Toyota compact SUV.
