After months of speculations and spy images of test mules, here is some concrete news at hand. Hyundai will officially venture into the crossover segment of vehicles in the Indian market with the introduction of the i20 Active scheduled on March 17, 2015.
In an official statement, Hyundai Motor India said, “Designed at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre Europe in Russelsheim, Germany, i20 Active is scheduled to make an official global debut in the Indian market in the month of March 2015.”
Based on the Elite i20, the India specific Active will feature a slightly raised ride height and new front and rear bumpers featuring prominent, round fog lamps, as well as scruff plates. The front air dam has also become bigger and bolder. It will also receive full body cladding, Euro-spec headlamps with projectors/DRLs, new alloy wheels & tires and a pair of roof rails, apart from minor changes in interior trim.
Power is expected to be delivered by the same engine options – 1.2-litre Kappa2 petrol and 1.4-litre CRDi diesel, both sourced from the Elite i20 hatchback. The 1.2 litre petrol engine is likely to deliver 82 hp of power and 114.7 Nm of torque while the 1.4 litre diesel motor will churn out about 89 hp of power and 220 Nm of torque.
