There have been enough rumours of Hyundai planning to launch an i20 sedan in the Indian car market in near future. However, there are next to no chances of Hyundai developing a sedan based on the i20 hatchback for emerging markets like that of India. While we have the i20 on sale here, Hyundai sells the HB 20 hatchback in Brazil. The HB20 is nothing but a more stylish but cheaper version of the i20 hatchback that has been developed especially for the Brazilian car market.
The HB20 has met with great success in Brazil and has been clocking segment leading sales figures. However, Hyundai is certainly in no mood to sit back and relax on its laurels. The Chevrolet Onix, HB20’s arch rival, will soon get a sedan variant (Prima) for Brazilian market and it is hence only fitting for Hyundai to come up with a HB20 sedan.
We reported in detail when a test mule of the Hyundai HB20 sedan was recently caught testing in Brazil
Now, a couple of patent drawings of the HB20 sedan have leaked on to the cyber space. The drawings show that the car gets characteristic Hyundai Fluidic Design at the rear and the designers at the Korean auto major seem to have done a good job.
As with almost every hatchback-derived sedan out there, the front half of the HB20 sedan will be same as the hatchback but the car will seems to have got some big after the B pillar.
The HB20 sedan will come with a sweeping roof and the car will get VW Vento like rear quarter glass at each side. At the rear end, the car will come with wrap around tail lamps, a beefy rear bumper and number plate housing on the trunk lid.
The car is most likely to be called as the Hyundai HB20S and will be powered by 1.0-litre and 1.6-litre flex fuel engines.
The Hyundai HB20 sedan will be launched soon after Chevrolet launches the Prisma sedan in March.
