We have been reporting in detail about the upcoming Hyundai Grand i10 based sedan, that is slated to become the logical successor of the erstwhile Accent and might even go on sale under the Accent moniker. Now, it is being said that the new Hyundai Grand i10 sedan aka new Accent India launch would happen on February 4, next year. It may be noted that the media days for the 2014 Indian Auto Expo commence on February 5 and hence, it would only be logical for HMIL to unveil the new sedan on 4th. The official launch though, in our opinion, won’t happen before the end of first quarter of 2014.
The Hyundai Grand i10 sedan will be to the Grand i10 what the Honda Amaze and Maruti Swift Dzire are to Brio and Swift respectively. Hence, the Grand i10 sedan benefits from platform and components sharing with the hatchback sibling.
The upcoming Hyundai Grand i10 sedan aka new Accent is likely to b e powered by the same 1.2-liter Kappa2 petrol engine and the three-cylinder 1.1-liter U2 CRDI diesel motor that powers the Grand i10 hatchback. However, do not be surprised if HMIL decides to plonk the i20′s 1.4-liter CRDI engine and a four speed auto into the Accent successor.
Talking about the interiors of the upcoming sedan, the same are likely to look much like the ones on the donor car. However, we expect the Grand i10 sedan to get revised rear set backrest angle and some more features. Currently, Hyundai is offering the Grand i10 with class leading features such as a high end music system (with in-built hard-drive), multifunction steering wheel, dual airbags, ABS, rear AC vents, cooled glovebox, et al.
The Grand i10 sedan will be placed between the hatchback variant and the Verna in the car maker’s product portfolio and will directly rival the Swift Dzire, the Amaze and the likes.
We feel that it would be nothing short of interesting to see if the upcoming i10 based compact sedan would be able to outsell established rivals such as the Dzire.
