Hyundai Exter Teased! Micro SUV from Hyundai

Hyundai has recently launched the latest generation of the Verna. The sedan has made a splash in the market, catching people’s eyes. Now, the Korean automaker is about to launch a new compact SUV. Hyundai has revealed the name of the upcoming SUV, slated below the Venue.

Now, Hyundai has announced the name of the upcoming SUV code-named Ai3. The forthcoming compact SUV will be known as the “Exter”. Hyundai is all set to begin the production of Exter from July 2023 onwards. While the sales of Hyundai Exter will be started during the festive season. Soon, Hyundai Exter will join the lineup of Grand i10 NIOS, Aura, i20, Venue, Verna, Creta, and Tucson. Hyundai also sells 2 electric vehicles in India, namely the Ioniq5 and Kona.

About Hyundai Exter

Hyundai recently revealed the name of its upcoming compact SUV, the Exter. The upcoming compact SUV will be 3.8 meters long, 1.7 meters wide, and 1.6 meters tall. Moreover, the Hyundai Exter will have a ground clearance of 180-190 mm. In design, the Hyundai Exter will carry over some design elements from the Venue. The Exter will feature a parametric grille, split headlights, and H-shaped LED taillights. In addition, the Exter will also get distinctive lines on the hood, 15-inch alloy wheels in two colors, LED taillights, sills, and a sunroof.

However, the interior of the upcoming Hyundai Exter could borrow some elements from the Grand i10 NIOS hatchback. Certain modern features like a large infotainment screen with connectivity features, wireless charging, a digital instrument cluster, ventilated seats, and 6-airbags are expected.

Powertrain Options

The upcoming Hyundai Exter will get 2 engine variants. Both powertrains will meet BS6 Phase-2 standards and support E20 blended fuel. The base engine will be a 1.2L VTVT 4-cylinder petrol engine delivering 82 hp of power and 115 Nm of torque. This variant will get a 5-Speed Manual or an AMT gearbox options.

However, the top variants will get an option of a 1.0L 3-cylinder T-GDi turbo petrol engine. This engine makes 99 hp and 172 Nm of output mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The Hyundai Exter could get a CNG option in the future.

Pricing and the Competition

The Hyundai Exter will be priced between Rs. 6 lakhs and 11 lakhs ex-showroom. When launched, the Hyundai Exter will compete with Maruti Ignis, Tata Punch, Citroen C3, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
