Hyundai Eon 1.0 in pipeline. To rival Alto K10

Hyundai-Eon-1.0-facelift-1

The good folks at Indian Autos Blog have stated that the boffins at Hyundai Motor India Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of Korean auto giant, are busy with readying a 1.0-liter engine variant of the Hyundai Eon small car. The more powerful version of the Eon is likely to come with revised exteriors that would feature a new bumper, headlights, front grille and some changes at the rear. The Hyundai Eon 1.0 is likely to make its debut in 2014 and would be a Maruti Alto K10 adversary. Thanks to the bigger engine, the Eon 1.0 will also be a worthy rival of the Chevrolet Spark and the Maruti A-Star, both of which feature a 1.0 litres petrol engine.

Powering the upcoming variant of Hyundai Eon could be a 998cc, three-cylinder, petrol engine that will be borrowed from the Europe-spec entry level Hyundai i10. It may be noted that the nase models of i10 in India are powered by the fast ageing 1.1 litre engine that powers the Santro. The Eon’s 1.0 litre engine is likely to have a max power of 68bhp @6,200rpm and a peak torque of 95Nm @3,500rpm. The engine should bestow the Eon with a 0-100kmph run of less than 14 seconds. enough to challenge some bigger hatchbacks we reckon. The car could have a top whack of 155 kmph. The Alto K10 is powered by a three cylinder K10 engine which has a max power of 67bhp and a peak torque of 90Nm.

The Hyundai Eon 1.0 will be sold alongside the current 800cc variants and is likely to command a premium of around INR 40000 over the latter. The new variant should help the Eon with having a better sales performance and more appeal.
