We reported in detail when Skoda India showcased the new gen 2013 Skoda Octavia in Mumbai recently. The new Octy is slated to go on sale sometime in September and would completely replace the very popular Laura (earlier gen Octavia). Now, we have compiled all the details and images of the new car to give you a fair idea of what the new Octy is like.
Talking about the car’s styling, the design cues from Vision-D concept can be found in abundance on the new Octavia. Skoda’s Chief Engineer Jozef Kaban shares the design philosophy of the new Octavia stating that the car has become more commanding, distinctive and dynamic than the outgoing model. Adding to Kaban’s comments, Frank Welsch- Skoda Board Member quoted “Perfect proportions, highest precision, clear lines and sharp edges- the new Skoda Octavia is the impressive embodiment of the new design language of the brand.” One look at the car and it seems to concur with the statements being made to its acclaim. The new 2013 Skoda Octavia flaunts its lines in a sharper manner than its predecessors while looking every bit a Skoda.
The Octavia has grown in size and is almost half a shoe size larger than its predecessor. The length of the new 2013 Skoda Octavia is 4659 mm- an increase of 90 mm over the sixth generation Octavia/Laura. The overall boost in dimensions has resulted in increased cabin space. Jozef Kaban says “The driver and passenger have virtually the same rights. Our motto is equal comfort for everyone aboard”.
The new Octavia is expected to come equipped with several gizmos that will borrow from the bigger Superb. The insides are likely to boast of higher quality of plastics. Boasting of fresh new interior space, Skoda states that it has been made aesthetically appealing, precise and refined. We really don’t have any intentions to challenge that claim.
The new 2013 Octavia is underpinned by the much publicized MQB platform. It may be noted that the same platform underpins many more new-age Volkswagen group cars. In India, the 2013 Skoda Octavia would be manufactured at the Skoda’s newly setup facility at Shendra near Aurangabad.
It is almost for sure that the new Octy will be pricier than the Laura but on the same time, the car might come across as a much more value for money proposition due to its larger size, newer technology and a bigger equipment list.
