The compact SUV segment in India has increased rapidly after the entry of Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport. Now, other car makers are also planning to grab a share in this segment. Indian car makers like Maruti and Mahindra are already testing their respective compact SUVs and are likely to launch their products very soon. Honda and Maruti are also planning to enter this segment which will make the competition stiffer.
Korean car maker Hyundai also plans to enter the compact SUV and MPV segment in India by next year. Speaking to PTI, Rakesh Srivastava, Vice President Sales and Marketing of Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) said, “From this year we have started entering segment where we are not present. We will continue to do this in the coming years to enter segments where we are not present currently. The compact SUV and MPV segments are growing in India and these are of interest to us.”
The compact SUV will compete against the Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Tata’s upcoming Nexon and Mahindra’s compact SUV codenamed S101. Tata and Mahindra are too expected to launch their respective compact SUV’s next year. Hyundai will have to pull out something really unique at an affordable price tag if it wants to capture a considerable share of the compact SUV market.
