Working quietly on its plans as your read this, India’s leading two -wheeler manufacturer, Hero Motocorp is putting together a couple of motorcycles which will announce their re-entry into the premium scheme of things. While it’s certain that a lot of exciting new stuff will come out of their swanky R&D centre, according to a report, Hero has clearly identified the premium segment as one of its top priorities. As a result, multiple motorcycles in the 200cc range have been designed and one of them is a higher-powered, off-road motorcycle which will be launched towards the middle of FY2018-19.
A report quotes Mr Pawan Munjal saying that Hero Motorcorp will enhance its focus on two growing segments — scooters and premium motorcycles — with completely new products. He goes on to add, “In the current fiscal (FY18), we are looking at aggressive market share gains to consolidate leadership, without compromising on the bottom line and our margins.”
The off-roader could most probably be a Hero Impulse with a bigger engine. But Hero could also surprise us by launching a completely new motorcycle built from scratch. First launched in 2011, the Hero Impulse wasn’t one of the most popular products from the manufacturer, but those who owned one still swear by it and have been crying ever since for a bigger engine beneath its tank. The extent of that need is such, some have even fitted their bikes with the Karizma’s engine. The other product could well be the Hero Xtreme 200S, along with some premium scooters. All these could grace the Hero Motocorp Pavillion at the Auto Expo next year, before being rolled out towards dealerships in the first quarter of 2018.
