GM Launches 2014 Chevrolet Spark Electric Vehicle in US Market

Chevrolet has launched the 2014 Chevrolet Spark Electric Vehicle in US market for a price of US $ 25000.  The Spark (aka Beat) Electric made its first public appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show held this year.

The Chevrolet Spark EV is powered by an oil-cooled, permanent magnet motor that produces at least 100 kW of power and is equally potent to a 130 hp car of similar weight. Plus, the electric motor means that the Spark/Beat EV has an instantaneous torque of almost 542Nm!

All this means that the Chevrolet Beat Electric Vehicle (EV) can dismiss the 60mph figure from standstill in less than eight seconds! To put things in perspective, this is enough to surprise that Skoda Octavia vRS ahead of you.

“When our team set out to develop the propulsion system for Spark EV, we knew we had to provide surprising fun-to-drive acceleration with maximum efficiency,” said Spark EV Chief Engineer Chuck Russell.

“What we think customers will enjoy most is how fun Spark EV is to drive; it’s seamless and power is available at every stage of the drive,” Russell added. “This will help us to provide an exciting option for those customers who are looking for an EV that’s as much fun to drive as it is environmentally responsible.”

The warranty on the batteries of the Chevrolet Spark EV is eight years /100,000 miles, whichever comes earlier. The Spark EV also boasts of ‘industry-first’ SAE combo charger that alloys 80 percent charging of battery in 20 minutes.

“Spark EV’s battery has undergone more than 200,000 hours of testing in our global battery systems labs,” said Larry Nitz, executive director of GM’s global electrification engineering team. “This testing paved the way to allow our customers to do multiple DC Fast Charges daily to help alleviate range anxiety and improve convenience.”

  1. this is neat.. such a vehicle in the Indian market will usher a new era.. although if they decide to use Lead Acid batteries, then it would mean the death of the product.. LiPoly batteries are the only thing that are suitable for this car..
