The Ford EcoSpoer, which is currently the country’s hottest selling SUV, is produced at Ford India’s Chennai facility, which caters to both domestic and certain export markets. This factory operates on two shift basis and it has emerged that the manufacturer is finding it difficult to run the second shift smoothly, all due to issues at the components supplier end.

Interestingly though, to counter the burgeoning waiting period, Ford India is looking at the possibility of introducing a third shift at its Chennai facility. However, it is believed that the supply constraints could lead to a significant delay in the introduction of this third shift.

It may be noted that so bad is the condition, that Ford India dealers across the country have once again terminated the bookings of some variants of the EcoSport. Among the worst hit is the 1.5 litre petrol engine equipped automatic transmission variant, which is on sale in the flagship Titanium trim level.

It now remains to be seen if Ford India would be successful in meeting the ever increasing demands and fight off various production issues that are bogging it down from bringing the waiting period down.
