The much publicized Ford EcoSport compact SUV recently made its ASEAN debut at the 34th Bangkok International Motor Show. During the showcasing of the car, Ford came out with a claim that the latest SUV from them “combines the agility, affordability and fuel efficiency of a compact car with the flexibility and spaciousness of a sport utility vehicle.”

The EcoSport is underpinned by Ford’s B-Segment platform and has been making news around the world since some time. The specifications of the car that has been unveiled are bog similar to the India spec model. This means that the car continues to have 550 mm water wading ability, 200mm ground clearance, 60:40 split rear seats and features like the SYNC.

Ford has unveiled the top of the line Titanium variant at the Bangkok show. The flagship variant of the EcoSport sports features like a sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels and several chrome bits on the outside.

The EcoSport will be built at Ford Thailand’s facility in Rayong. This is the same plant that also manufactures the Fiesta and Focus. Ford has announced that as many as 100 car markets around the world will get the EcoSport eventually. Also, Thailand and India will become major export hubs of this car.

Thailand spec EcoSport also gets other features like push-button start, keyless entry, rear parking sensors, Hill Launch Assist, dual front and side curtain airbags, and ESP.

While the India spec car gets three different engine variants, the Thailand market will get only one engine for the EcoSport. The Thai spec car will be powered by a 1.5L naturally aspirated, VVTi petrol engine with 108 PS power and 138 Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and will also get an optional 6-speed automatic transmission.
