Fiat India to Bring Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2013

Our regular readers would remember that we reported about the possibility of the launch of Jeep brand in India and now it has been confirmed that Fiat India is working on launching the Jeep cars in fast growing Indian car market next year.

The Jeep Grande Cherokee will be launched next year and will come to us via CBU route. The popular SUV will have a price tag of around INR 40 lakhs and the price might go down if Fiat India decides to opt for CKD import in case of high demand.

Powering the Jeep Grande Cherokee is a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine that is internationally available in two states of tune- 188BHP-440 Nm and 237BHP-550 Nm. The motor is mated to a 5-speed auto ‘box. Horsepower hungry that we are, we wish that Fiat India brings the SRT-8 edition of Grande Cherokee, which produces 465BHP from a 6.4-litre V8 engine.

It may be noted that Jeep are the inventors of SUV segment and are arguably the oldest all terrain vehicle brand in the world. Fiat India plans to set up a new distribution network for Jeep’s upcoming Indian operations and also plans to launch the Jeep Patriot, Jeep Commander and Jeep Compass in India.
