In what seems to be a rare incident, a biker lost control of his Harley Davidson before it hit a divider and flew up in the air, later landing on a moving car. The unfortunate incident took place on Friday at SV Road in Santacruz (West) when the owner of the vehicle, identified as Ravi Pageria, was on his way to his office located in South Mumbai.
Around 10 am, Pageria, who had left from his Juhu residence on his Harley Davidson, noticed a pedestrian trying to cross the road and applied the brakes to save him. Reportedly riding at a high speed, he lost control of the two wheeler and was thrown off his motorcycle that went ahead for about 25 metres before hitting a divider and flying into the air. The motorcycle then landed on a vehicle that was plying on the opposite side.
The accident resulted in the driver of the car, whose identity remains unknown, suffering from severe injuries while the biker suffered from minor bruises. Police officials reached the spot after which a case was registered against Pageria under the Indian Penal Code sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others).
Reports suggest that the locals pulled the driver of the vehicle out of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno and later took him to Nanavati hospital where he is currently undergoing treatment. A test to check for driving under the influence of alcohol was undertaken, the result of which was negative.
