After months of spy shots and speculations, Chevrolet has officially unveiled the Trailblazer SUV and Spin MPV in India. The Chevrolet SUV will be launched in October 2015, while the Spin MPV will hit Indian shores in 2017.
Just to refresh your memory, the Trailblazer is a 7-seater, body-on-frame SUV. It is 4,878mm in length, 1,902mm in width, 1,834 in height, and boasts of a 2,870mm wheelbase. The Chevrolet Trailblazer will be powered by an all-new 2.8-litre Duramax turbo-diesel, in-line 4 cylinder engine. This powerplant develops 200 hp at 3600 rpm, while maximum torque is rated at 500 Nm at 2000 rpm. Transmission options will include a 6-speed automatic, apart from a 6-speed manual. Top spec variants will get a four-wheel drive option.
Some of the features offered on the Chevrolet Trailblazer include projector headlights, LED tail lamps, and 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seat upholstery, steering-mounted audio & telephony controls, automatic climate control, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat. Safety nets include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Hill Descent Control, Hill Start Assist, and Electronic Stability Control. The Trailblazer will reportedly be imported to India from Thailand as a Completely Built Unit (CBU).
The Chevrolet Spin MPV will hit Indian shores in early 2017
As for Chevrolet’s Spin MPV, this car will be entering a very competitive segment. Upon launch in a couple of years, the Spin will battle it out with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, and Renault Lodgy, among others. The Chevrolet Spin measures 4,360mm in length, 1,735mm in width and 1,683mm in height. Just like its SUV cousin, the Spin too is designed as a 7-seater.
The Chevrolet Spin will get a petrol engine, likely in the form of a 1.2-litre 4-cylinder DOHC 16 valve dual VVTi unit, or a larger 1.5-litre motor. The latter churns out 107bhp at 6000 rpm and 142 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm. The 1.2-litre petrol engine develops 85bhp at 5600 rpm and 115 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. The oil burner will be a 1.3-litre four-pot, common-rail direct injection turbo-diesel engine. This engine produces 74bhp at 4000 rpm and 190 Nm of twist at 1750 rpm. The engines will come paired to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Upon launch of the Spin, it is likely that Chevrolet could withdraw the Enjoy from service, though only time will tell. Unlike the Trailblazer, we suspect the Spin will make use of the American carmaker’s localisation attempts, thus keeping the costs in check.
