Chevrolet Jade Rendering and Details

The Chevrolet Jade is a Maruti-Suzuki Swift rivalling hatchback that is headed towards India. It is based on the Amber platform of Chevrolet.

The Amber platform is a project of Chevrolet aimed at developing countries. It will form the underbone for a hatchback, a compact sedan as well as another compact SUV. Like I have stated umpteen times earlier, the use of a common platform allows for lower development and production costs. This allows the company to earn more revenues and profits.

The products based on the Amber platform will be directed at emerging markets like Russia, India, Brazil, Thailand and Mexico. Since lower prices and ownership costs are prime factors in the car buying process of these countries’ populace, the common platform will do a very good job of attracting large sales volumes.

The Jade is the hatchback that will be spawned out of the Amber platform. Another vehicle will be a compact sedan, sized below 4 meters in India to earn excise benefits. The last product from the Amber platform will be a compact SUV. This SUV was previewed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, and it was called “Adra”.

The Chevrolet Jade will take on the extremely competitive hatchback market in India. Competitors include the Hyundai Grand i10, Maruti-Suzuki Swift and the hugely successful Ford Figo. If Chevrolet wants to taste success with the Chevrolet Jade hatchback, pricing has to hit the right note. We believe a price tag hovering between INR 4-6 lakhs will hit just that sweet spot.

However, the caveat in the situation lies in the fact that the Amber platform will take some time to roll out crystallised products. At present, details are very thin on the ground. At best, the Chevrolet Jade hatchback could see light towards the later part of 2018. Till then, Chevrolet has too fend off the competition in India with its Sail U-VA hatchback.
