In fact, the Chevrolet Cruze will be officially launched in India within a weeks time. The first batch of cars is already ready with deliveries slated to begin around Diwali. The Cruze will be offered with three engine options namely the 1.6 litre and the 1.8 litre petrol engines along with the 2.0 litre diesel option. Although the engines powering the Cruze will be carried over from the Optra, ground up it is a completely new car.
The D-segment offering from Chevrolet will retail for around the 12-14 lakh rupee mark depending on the variant. The Cruze will be competing against the likes of Honda’s Civic and Toyota’s Corolla. The going will get tough for the Civic and Camry as they still do not offer a diesel option to buyers. Globally, General Motors is still in a vulnerable position though its Indian leg of operations is doing just about fine. Time will be the perfect judge to whether the Chevrolet Cruze mints money for the American automotive manufacturer or ends up adding to its global misery!
