The all new Nissan Micra is all set for an Auto Expo unveiling this January. As you can see here, Nissan has publicized the sketches for its upcoming compact car or the global market. The good news is, the Micra will be manufactured at Nissan’s Chennai plant and then exported to over 150 countries.

As per our industry sources, there will be a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine for the base model while the higher spec versions will house a 1.4-litre petrol mill alongside a 1.5-litre diesel offering. While the 1.2-litre petrol is a completely new engine for the Indian market, the 1.4-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel will essentially be the same units from the Renault Logan, albeit in a different state of tune.

Though the unveiling will happen in January, the Micra will start rolling off the Indian production line only in May. Expect bookings and deliveries in the same time period. Nissan India’s marketing arm Hover Automotive International are in the process of setting up more dealerships and service centers in the country as the demand for this car is expected to be quite high. The Micra will compete with a variety of cars ranging form the market leaders Swift, i20 and Fabia and new entrants like the Grande Punto and the upcoming VW Polo. The base model will be priced below Rs. 4-lakh (ex-showroom) while the top end model will nudge the 8-lakh rupee mark.
