Check Out This Chinese Copy of the VW Beetle by VIDOEV

Only yesterday, we showed you how the Chinese went ahead and shamelessly copied the BMW i3 in the form of the Jimma JMW200. Now, this time, they have copied another German car- the VW Beetle. Chinese low-speed electric vehicle (LSEV) manufacturer VIDOEV has made this copy of the Beetle which runs on electricity.

The unnamed vehicle was recently showcased at the Shandong EV Expo in China. That’s not the only thing they have copied. If you observe the bonnet, you may say is this a Nissan ? The answer is no ! Actually, the VIDOEV logo itself is a blatant rip-off of the Nissan logo. While the Beetle is a two door car, this Chinese copy has four doors. Also, it features an exhaust tip at the rear which is utter foolishness considering it is an electric vehicle.

Since it has not been named, the company calls it a “Beetle-style car” which will actually go into production early next year. The interior cabin hasn’t been finalized yet but it too draws its inspiration from the Beetle and will feature a lead-acid battery installed underneath the rear seats.

The four-door Beetle rip-off is is powered by an electric motor which produces “at least” 20 kW (27 HP). Details about the range are not available at the moment. Pricing hasn’t been officially revealed yet but VIDOEV representatives at Shandong EV Expo said it will start from around 100,000 yuan.
