Car makers offer huge discounts to push sales

Motorcycles are fun to ride. You can slice your way through the traffic and quickly reach your desired destination. But then comes the month of June when monsoons hit the country. And although I would love to have the splash of cool monsoon water on my face, it’s a bizarre situation to sit in the office, completely drenched in water. Public transport seems like a more practical mode of commuting but then there are people who prefer wearing a raincoat even inside the railway coach. Stink is a different issue altogether.

Well, if you are one of the people who face the same dilemma every day, you might be interested in what’s coming up next. Car manufacturers in the country are offering huge discounts to boost their sales numbers in India. In the big volume small car segment, the discounts hover between Rs 25,000 and Rs 78,000 depending on the model and the make. The discounts are available till the end of this month.

Maruti Alto, along with corporate offer, cash benefits and exchange offers, receives a discount of around Rs 60,000. The Alto K10 receives a discount of about Rs 45,000.

Korean manufacturer, Hyundai is offering its small car Eon (1.0 dual VTVT Kappa engine variant) receives a discount of approximately Rs 34,000 whereas the i10 receives a discount of about 29,000.

Car makers witnessed good sales during the month of May and June when manufacturers offered huge discounts. This new discounts have been initiated to keep the momentum of sales going at a decent pace. Other cars that are still being sold on discount at Chevrolet Beat with a discount of around Rs 78,000, Ford Figo with a discount of around Rs 61,000 and the MPV Chevrolet Enjoy with a discount of around Rs 70,000.

Expressing his views on the discounts offered in the car market, Mayank Pareek, COO-marketing and sales, Maruti Suzuki said, “Discounts are at the same level as earlier in the year and on an average they are actually higher than last year.”

However, some models have managed to gain market share without any discount backup. These models include Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Honda’s new City, Hyundai i10 Grand and Xcent, among others.

The list of benefits also include corporate benefits, exchange schemes, cash benefits, and marketing lollies like free holidays and cost of ownership packages like free insurance and extended warranty.
