BYD Seal India Specifications Unveiled

BYD readies for Seal EV launch in India on March 5, fully imported, expected ex-showroom price around Rs 50 lakh.

Powertrain and Range

In India, the BYD Seal is set to make its mark with an 82.5kWh battery pack and rear-wheel drive configuration, promising an impressive claimed range of 570km on the WLTP cycle.

The permanent magnet synchronous motor at the rear axle packs a punch with 230hp and 360Nm of torque. In practical terms, this translates to a swift 0-100kph time of 5.9 seconds, all while maintaining a weight of 2,055kg.

Innovative Battery Technology

BYD incorporates its patented blade technology into the Seal’s battery, ensuring efficient charging speeds of up to 150kW. Remarkably, a 10-80 percent charge can be achieved in just 37 minutes.

For those opting for a more conventional 11kW AC charger, a full charge from 0-100 percent takes approximately 8.6 hours. The entry-level RWD variant is not the end of the story; rumors hint at a dual-motor AWD variant with 530hp and an extended claimed range of 520km.

Design Elegance Inside and Out

The BYD Seal draws inspiration from the Ocean X concept of 2021, embodying BYD’s distinctive “ocean aesthetics” design language.

With a coupe-like all-glass roof, flush-fitting door handles, boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, split headlamp design, and a full-width LED light bar at the rear, the Seal is a visual masterpiece.

Inside, the BYD Seal offers a futuristic experience with a rotating 15.6-inch infotainment display, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver, and a heads-up display.

The center console hosts a floating touchscreen, flanked by central AC vents, a drive selector, and a scroll wheel for selecting different drive modes.

Additionally, basic controls for functions like heated windscreen, audio volume, and wireless charging pads are neatly integrated.

Anticipated Price and Market Competitors

Enthusiasts and potential buyers eagerly await the Seal’s expected price of around Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). This positions it as a formidable competitor to the Hyundai Ioniq 5, priced at Rs 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom).

Notably, the Ioniq 5 closely matches the BYD Seal in terms of specifications, boasting a RWD motor with 217hp and a 72.6kWh battery pack for a claimed range of 630km.
