Brawn GP is now Mercedes GP!

Mercedes-Benz has acquired a 75.1% stake in Team Brawn GP. The German automotive marquee also announced that Brawn GP will be now be branded as Mercedes GP.  Mercedes further intends to sell off its 40% stake in McLaren within the next two years.

According to Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Head of Mercedes-Benz cars the manufacturer will compete in the F1 World Championship from next year with its own factory team.  He commented that this is possible by the agreed acquisition of 75.1 per cent of Brawn GP, 45.1 per cent of which is from Daimler while the rest will be with Ross Brawn, Nick Fry and other members.  He further revealed that the interests of Daimler are aligned therefore it will be a true Mercedes-Benz team.

Ross Brawn will continue to be a part of Mercedes GP in his earlier designation as team principal. The team has not announced its driver line-up for the next season giving rise to speculation that 2009 champion Jenson Button who has not been signed by any other team will be driving for them. Rubens Barrichello has already signed a contract with Williams for next season.
